While in the midst of the Coronavirus Pandemic, we witnessed yet again, the ongoing acts of racism in our country and we were quickly connected as a conference with "A Call to Prayer" by our bishop.ġ08. He has been “high touch” throughout this period, very visible, and very much in the midst of the people of the NYAC.ġ07. He has also had a number of Zoom meetings with clergy and with laity. Step by step, Bishop has walked with each of us through these unbelievable days! He has “stepped in” to a number of Zoom Meetings. Throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic, a time of fear, uncertainty and unbelievable loss, our Episcopal Leader kept all of us connected with his office each step of the way with: updated information from the governors of New York and Connecticut, with words of encouragement and support, with opportunities for worship and prayer, with the sharing of Scripture, information about church closings and a 26 page document with plans for reopening our churches. A few days later we received Bishop's memo regarding the rising concerns about the virus in New Rochelle and among members of our conference.ġ06. On March 4, 2020, members of the New York Annual Conference received a memorandum from Bishop Bickerton's office, regarding the first known cases of the Coronavirus within the bounds of our Conference. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), under the leadership of Bishop Bickerton, provided outstanding leadership and support following the devastation caused during last year's hurricane season.ġ05.
These gatherings with Bishop Bickerton gave clergy and laity an opportunity to not only hear directly from our bishop but to share their questions and concerns.ġ04. Consequently, within a 4 month period, Bishop Bickerton met with each pastor and each church/charge in our conference for a face-to-face conversation around the ongoing concerns about the future of our denomination.

This new format was designed to provide an opportunity for our congregations to experience a more intimate and supportive relationship with one another while sharing and receiving vital information.
